Personality:
Rin is a complex individual whose personality and emotions run the gamut. While oft happy, boisterous, and even confrontational, he is capable of seriousness when it is required. He has a full range of emotion, so, while not strictly speaking, common, one who knew him would not be entirely surprised to see him sad, though they might be surprised to see him foolhardy. He is boastful, self-absorbed to a degree, and downright irritating to another. His glamour, he knows it makes him quite attractive and he is not afraid to use it to his advantage. He can be manipulative, even downright selfish, or spoiled! But most often he is an honorable and compassionate individual. He is incredibly self assured, at least until the evidence shows otherwise. He has the capacity to be a very tender individual, in many aspects. Once he sets his mind to something, it is very difficult to get him to change it. He has a love of music, so intense that it may almost draw him in completely when he hears it. He is a dedicated individual and will gladly give of himself if he can spare it.
Appperance:
Rin Tokuro is an odd one, a drifter, a farmer, a petty thief, a mixed blood with his own glamour that allows him to blend so long as he does not draw too much attention to himself, and does not work on the spiritually adept.
With Glamour:
Rin appears to be an attractive, rustic young man, around high school or apprenticing age, perhaps seventeen. Muscles tense firmly with every motion, loose fitting linen clothing, cheap. Drawn trousers, sandals, a shirt with very long sleeves. His eyes seem to shine a joyful and cheery brown, greeting every moment with a hopeful optimism and a hint of anxiety. His teeth are perfect, and even his messy hair seems somehow perfect. It is difficult to truly look at him head on, even harder to see his hands and feet, though brief glimpses gives one the feeling that something is wrong with them, though on direct examination they seem to be fine. He seems, truly, to be a wonderful, lovable young man. Then again, perhaps he doesn’t. Everyone seems to interpret him just a little bit differently, recalling his skin tones, height, ruggedness… As if in a haze the average humans slowly find it difficult to remember much about him, only left with vague images that their minds fill in to their liking, the only thing that they all seem to agree on is the energy he seemed to radiate, excitement… And his charming, if not overly witty, almost snarky voice. He smells like a wood in bloom with only faint undertones of whatever else may happen to have been around him, the one exception of course, being blood. Blood is a powerful aroma, deeply ingrained into the human psyche, and a strong enough concentration around or on him immediately breaks his glamour.
Without Glamour:
Rin is very easily identified as something not human, the prominent ears sprouting from his skull being a very large and irrefutable clue, surrounded by a shaggy mess of fur that covers his head and rolls down his neck and back, then begins to wrap around his waist, and quickly entirely consumes his entire lower half in a gorgeous pelt. A demon rabbit from the waist down, a large and fluffy tail fervently twitches about from a hole in the back of his simple shorts. He wears no other clothing, except a bracelet on his right arm. Speaking of arms, from forearms to fingertips he is also coated in that shaggy gorgeous pelt. His hands are powerful and useful for digging through earth and clay, with long, dexterous fingers tipped in blunt claws. His eyes retain their brown colouration, completely solid with no iris or pupil in sight. Six foot four when fully standing, but tends to move with his knees bent, as it is more comfortable. Small scars scatter just about his ears and tailbone, remnants of earlier life. The muscles that seemed so prominent with glamour on have degraded into a fit but lanky frame, like that of an acrobat or a runner. His voice remains the same, that joyful, snarky tone and smoothness.
Without Focus :
Rin is a mixed blood, having three parents he is two thirds youkai, and it is very difficult for him to even be halfway human. He must consciously exert his will to retain his human characteristics very often, sometimes it even seems as though it must be every waking moment… If he does not, he loses hold on it and immediately reverts to a true youkai state. It is very inconvenient for several reasons, though it does have its uses. His reverted state has no way to disguise itself, and is prone to many urges that his heritage indoctrinates him with. He can become especially, fearful, even violent. His hunger becomes consuming, and more than once has driven a village into near starvation as he raided their stored goods. He has carnivorous tendencies, but as long as his hunger remains lessened he will not give into them. He becomes a small creature, a bipedal rabbit. Youthful indeed, a child really, only knee high to a teenager but not unworldly in the slightest. He is incredibly adept at playing it up as though he is, however! His day is the March Equinox, and during it he may briefly either shed his youkai nature, be a true human child for a single day, or give in to his nature and be granted an intense boost to his demonic natures which slowly eats away at what humans would consider to be his ‘sanity’.
History:
In order to understand Rin’s history, we must first learn about his mother, and his parentage. A great hare and an oracle, an ability Rin did not inherit. Ara was a beautiful and intelligent woman.. Well, for her kind, anyway. In the middle of her life she was bored, very bored. She had no desire to cause unrest, or harm, and long since had the people ceased coming to her for knowledge. She lived in solitude, and so it was that she began to look about the world for something she desired. Finding nothing, she delved deeper, and deeper, further. One day she found a man, far off, beyond the reaches of time, long after she herself would have passed, and fell in love. She became sick, it ate at her, she watched him every day yet she could not reach him, she could never reach him. Many years passed and her powers grew, each passing day increasing her power. On her day, this day so long after she had first spied him, she broke the rules, and causality itself. For one brief night, one wonderful night, she reached across the world, so far ahead, and took him for her own, entrancing him with her glamour… In just a few hours she had blossomed a deep love that held them together even across the vast separation. In just that one night she had acquired a son.
Yes, a son, but all was not well, having acquired that which she so desired, she returned home, and did all in her power to guide the man into a comfortable life, never again able to meet him, only whisper to him, unheard, but felt. It was a few years later, close to his birth, that her child was dying. He was not strong enough to survive the stress her powerful body created for it, and so she sought another father, of her kind, but strong. The strongest of them all, she gave herself to him completely. Everything she was, and would be, even though it hurt her. She had to abandon the man she had loved forever. He took her for his own, and gave her a child, a stronger child, the strength of the greatest rabbit of all the Youkai.
Soon after, the child was born, and that is when it all fell apart. The impurity of the child, the father grew enraged. He felt betrayed, how could she, and with a human? He would not listen, and she was forced to flee with her child to keep it safe, breaking her vow, much of her power began to wane into the enraged beast she had fled. She was left with no choice but to use her glamour to hire a band of demonslayers to kill him. And they did, with many casualties. The weakened woman fled to the coast, where she took residence in a small cottage on the shore.
Years passed, and her child slowly grew, a human child, when he came of age he was already helping farm and fish, and shortly after he began to show youkai traits. Every trip into town became an ordeal, forcing him to sever his rabbit ears, and soon a tail, just to trade and shop. They would grow back after a few days, but it was most unpleasant. As he continued to grow, his aging slowed, and his traits grew further and further. He went from a normal child to a small demon in just a few short years, the later were quite difficult, for there came a point where he could not pass as human no matter how hard he tried. It required them to be entirely self-sufficient, and with his body being consumed by his demon characteristics he was less and less helpful. Just before they reached the breaking point of reverting to savage natures, he grew old enough to draw out his humanity and once again was able to reintegrate into human society. His mother had raised him well, and one day, when he returned from town, he found her gone.
He did not look for her, something in him told him this was the way it should be. She had left, he did not know where, but he knew he no longer needed her. She would surely still be watching him, checking in him, making sure he was well, but he would probably never see her again. So it was that he became a farmer and a fisherman, and for a time he was happy. Then the soldiers came. His land was taken for a great castle and he was given little to no compensation. He became a drifter, thieving, practicing in various trades. There were incidents, where he was discovered, and the soldiers came, and the slayers… Needless to say he got really, really good at running, and occasionally, when forced to fight, he would keep their weapons for himself, practicing with them on occasion, but never with too much seriousness.
Thirteen years later, he has become very good at being a normal man, though he does wish he could find a community where he could be himself, without having to be needlessly violent, and he has even learned many useful skills to aid him in his.. How should we say… Lack of regular employment.
