In the mountains, time... slowed. Or even stopped. Or perhaps it sped by so fast that Eika couldn't see it, days and months and years whipping past as she lost herself in the joy of the wind. Regardless, many, many times she had found herself up here, overlooking a mountain pass. A thin path, beaten into the ground by feet of both youkai and humans, was barely visible from this height. The air was thin, clear without the pollution of smoke from fires, or even the scent of anything at all except perhaps for windswept rock. This was her domain, and she stood poised on the ledge, staring ahead without any real notion of how much time was passing.
Still... there was something different. Less travellers went through the mountains, and those that did had more protection than usual. Some were weapons merchants, others were bandits - crows waiting for battle so they could loot and pillage the remnants. Something was moving, changing, in the lands of humans.
Perhaps it was time to return, to remind herself that she was still flesh and blood and bone. With that in mind, she leaped off of the ledge, gravity instantly jerking her downward. She skimmed over the slope, deftly avoiding or leaping off of rocks, continuing her progress downwards by huge, graceful leaps. Finally, the ground rushed up to meet her and she landed lightly on the path, ears pricking and head turning to catch any scent of strangers approaching. It was impossible to sense others nearby during such a run, and she was still giddy enough that it was difficult to think. Her usual caution returning - her leap had hardly been the stealthiest of movements - she began to search, snorting as she thought she heard something moving towards her.
Just her luck, really...
