Name: Eika
Alias: N/A
Gender: Female
Age: 412
Birth Place: Mount Iwate
Eastern Horoscope: Dragon
Allegiance: Neutral
Weapon:
Fangs: Having a canine form, Eika has a rather impressive set of teeth, made for ripping gouges in flesh. Though the strength of her bite isn't enough to go through stone or metal, she can easily savage a limb, rip out a throat or maim someone.
Claws: She is also equipped with blunt claws that, while hardly lethal, can leave painful wounds if she manages to rake someone with them. In human form, these are far more pointed to make up for the fact that she can't bite as easily.
Skills: Air Manipulation - Eika is able to use the air around her as a weapon, maintaining a control of the element depending on her emotional state. When perfectly calm, she can form fine, delicate shapes, create and control whirlwinds and draw wind from a large area around her. The more emotional she becomes, the less control she has, but she is always capable of creating a blast of wind that sweeps around her, as well as an unfocused gale. She is able to fly without wings, running on air as if it were solid beneath her. Her most important and dangerous ability - to herself - is that she can fade into the wind. It is only possible once every week or so because it takes a toll on her. Her body is carried somewhere to recover or rest while her soul wanders on the wind, and every time she does it, it is more difficult to return. During storms, when there are strong winds, there is a chance of her fading involuntarily.
Eika cannot use her powers easily in a place with limited air. If there is no wind to stir the air or move it, she has difficulty doing anything more than a loose gust of wind, and she cannot create more air, making fighting in an enclosed space a nightmare for her, which lends itself to her fear of being trapped in such a place. Though the wind gives her power, if it is too strong she risks losing control of what she is doing and having her soul be snatched away by the wind, with no idea if she will be able to return to her body. Though manipulating the air does not tire her, she is vulnerable when doing anything complicated, as she needs a moment to concentrate.
Occupation: Wanderer
Personality:
Eika is rather easy to misjudge. When one first meets her they might take her to be apathetic to the extreme. She shows little emotion, always maintaining a polite, reserved attitude that has little inflection and doesn't change often. However, this is partially because she feels that she can't deal with the close ties of many relationships, and keeps others away for that purpose. As well, emotional restraint is important to keep her powers under control, as feeling anything too strongly could cause trouble. The weight of knowing and trusting someone makes her nervous, as it is a bond that can't be easily broken, and her need for freedom means that trusting too many could entangle her too much in the affairs of others. She hates being indebted to anyone, and if someone does aid her, she will do everything possible to no longer owe them as quickly as possible.
Freedom is more than a concept for her - it is a way of life, and due to her wind-based nature, Eika cannot stand feeling bound to anything. At times, this longing for freedom can be extreme and suicidal, as her body ties her down to the earth. However, this wish to not be bound also seperates her from others. Most living beings depend on the earth for some thing, but she is apart from them, isolated. Different. She is often haughty with that difference, confident that no one can understand her, for she is the wind.
She is proud - but many are, especially when secure in their power. Her solitary nature only enhances that pride, for she does not need to depend on anything or anyone, and will always remain slightly contemptous of those who work together or depend on each other. Her isolation makes her perceptive, aware of much but saying little unless needed. She savours her thoughts and actions, and is remarkably close-mouthed, speaking only when there is a need to. Her fuse is long, allowing her to keep calm even when being baited, though being confined or surrounded by many makes her edgy and more likely to show anger or fear.
Appperance:
Eika has a rather unexpected appearance. Surely a wind demon would be a bird, if it looked like anything at all, but she takes a vaguely canine form. It is obvious enough that she isn't a wolf or a dog, with blue fur that fades and looks rather misty at her extremities, though it is solid to the touch. The fur on her body is relatively short and dense, but that is made up for by the long, extravagant mane around her neck, as well as the equally long and flowing plume of a tail. That fur is prone to settling in long spikes, softer to the touch and light, as if it doesn't have a proper weight or mass. Both mane and tail look ethereal in nature, as if a hand could pass through them with little resistance, and though that is not the case, it hints at her nature.
Unsurprisingly, Eika has a slender build. Though, at her head she is six feet tall, her body is made for speed, with lean muscles and slender proportions. She is by far lighter than she should be, even with how thin she is. Her eyes are a pale blue, a shade darker than her fur but prone to becoming a clearer, more definite colour reminiscent of a saphire when she is focused. Attached to the base of her neck, beneath the mane, are a number of dark blue wisps that trail out behind her when she moves. These represent her connection to the wind, and move differently when she is using her power. They have no function in combat, but she can move them seperately at will. Having someone touch them causes discomfort, with more prolonged contact bringing pain and lethargy.
Being powerful enough to attain a human form, Eika has one but does not appear in it often due to its confining nature. When she does take on the appearance of a human, she is tall and frail-looking, with long hair the same shade as her fur. Her eyes are unchanged, and she bears both fangs and claws, though the latter are short and easy to overlook. The wisps remain, though they are almost impossible to find beneath her hair. Her ears are pointed, and there is a tuft of blue fur at the tip of each, pale enough to go unnoticed.
History:
Eika was not created out of vengeful spirits or born to another demon - her memory only went back to a sudden clarity of thought when there had been none before. She assumes, and rightly, that one day she was just there, spun out of the air, created through no act of her own. Even then, helpless and newborn, she had an awareness of both her body and spirit, of something that lingered in the air. It called to her. It was what led her to movement, getting up on trembling legs and following after that call. At first, she had no idea of what to do with food, but in that pull of the wind there was instruction, and instinct, and when she followed it she found herself satisfying her hunger and thirst, learning that she had to rest. She learned what pain was too, attacked by a lesser demon that chased her from its prey as she scavenged. She survived, though, and eventually she was strong enough to hunt on her own, wandering from place to place. She encountered other demons and talked with them, not sure why she felt uneasy about it.
That was when she learned of names. At first, she hadn't understood. She knew what she was, why put a word to it? But others seemed to find it important, so she named herself Eika, since she had discovered herself by following the song of the wind. After that, she spoke often with those she met on her wanderings, but gradually she began to feel... heavy. Those she spoke to and befriended knew of her as Eika, not as the wind, and suddenly there was an imbalance. It was hard to move, hard to think, and she eventually found shelter in the mountains, sleeping for days, eating only when she had to. At some point, the lethargy passed, and she assumed those she had known were dead. With this new knowledge, she descended from the mountains, keeping to herself.
She always had an interesting concept of time. It passed, she could see the changes in seasons, but the years did not weigh heavily on her. Alone, with little to occupy herself, she began to move the air, first as a curiosity but later using it to hunt, to defend herself from those that attacked her. Her control grew as she seperated herself from the world. As her power grew, Eika found herself taking an objective interest in what went on. She watched others fight and squabble, watched humans build up dreams and hopes only to die of plague or attacks from bandits or demons. Nothing concerned her, and she moved through the events like a ghost, an unseen spectator. It was that which earned her the scars on her legs, when she got too close to a tribe of kamaitachi. They had been driven out of their own territory and - intent on causing havoc - had attacked her, for no better reason than that she, being a wind demon, could have taken their side. They were somewhat like her, after all. She had driven them off, but sustained enough injuries that she needed to rest and heal for a long time, and the scars remained.
Somewhere in the stream of time she learned how to take on a human form, but she found it confining, even if she retained her speed and abilities in it, and though it was useful to pass through a place relatively unnoticed, she only did so at great need.
